Why are you planning to move?

LinkedIn Unicron0 OP Aug 29, 2018

On H1B, no green card in sight.. based on current laws.. forced to consider my options. Tired of paperwork needed to renew work permit.. wife forced to a stay on under-paid crap job, since she couldn't clear H1B inspite of having a quality master's and MBA degree which accounts for zilch here unless it's in computer science - and difficult to change jobs on her H4 ead due to the administrations fear mongering... Basically - I've reached breaking point.

why not Vancouver?

LinkedIn Unicron0 OP Aug 29, 2018

Vancouver fine as well...

Amazon BeffJezos! Aug 29, 2018

Yoe? Unless u plan to join amzn/msft/goog, probably will need to take a cut in TC. Even at those companies, TC is lower compared to us offices so keep that in mind

Capital One Cdjgk Aug 29, 2018

True. There will be a salary cut. And COL in Toronto and Vancouver is almost as expensive as NYC or SF

Capital One Cdjgk Aug 29, 2018

OP, have you already gotten Canadian PR?

Just recognize taxes and everyday goods are way more expensive. If you are a consummerist get used to living sparing. On the other hand since you have kids their education is good and heavily subsidized along with healthcare. Housing is substantially less than the bay area to rent and there is a mini correction happening if buying Oh and your world income goes down because currency is generally 10-20 percent less than usd

Capital One Cdjgk Aug 29, 2018

Easy to buy a house if working in Toronto or Vancouver?

New
CnMt82 Aug 29, 2018

Sure as easy as any major city. Have cash and be ready to close. The more cash you have the closer to the city you can buy

Guys i made the move from los angeles to toronto, canada- i am making the exact same in cad that i was making in usd. My pay is half yours. Also job market is slow as jn hiring process is slow. I was on h1b and cant wait for my gc so moved on PR - life is so much peaceful here specially with kids.
