I’m in a situation where wlb is extremely good ( like 20 hours per week ) but work is extremely boring. Code projects are very simple CRUD with no scale or code quality requirements. It’s a perfect coasting gig but I feel I’m gonna be brain-dead and replaced by chatGPT soon. In this market it’s pretty hard to find other gig, so haven’t had luck in job hopping except a few toxic bank opportunities What should I do ? TC: 155k
Pick your poison. Most jobs either have good WLB or good work... or neither.
You can’t have it all 🤣
Work on improving that TC even if the new job is this boring.
High TC jobs either require 5+ YoE in tech or specialized expertise like AIML. I don’t have neither unfortunately… HFT isn’t even looking at me
Maybe high high TC but "higher than 155k" is a whole different ballpark. 155 in HCOL is basically entry level, you can find 200k+ with 1-2 yoe. You don't need to jump from 155 to 500
Keep an eye open for interesting opportunities and interview prep. You have the free time and the best time to find a job is when you have one. I stayed at a job for 5 years that was very coast friendly because I got comfortable. Finally started looking elsewhere and 4x my TC in 2 years. Kicking myself for not doing it years sooner
Start a business.
You quit and find a new career. Retail or janitorial are great choices.
What are their TC ? Any chance over 200k ?
Seek and you will learn
Help an OSS project. This way you are able to work on interesting projects and it will look good on your resume
What is OSS project ?

nnnnn at Goldman Sachs?
GS is a huge company. Also I’m in a back office team in core eng. Usually only front office teams have bad wlb.
Damn and is wfh flexible? Like do they enforce office or is it more recommended
Was in the same position. Only worked 1-2 hours per day since work was super trivial shitty DevOps/SRE type work. Also my first job out of university(FAANG). Career growth is most important factor early in your career so I made the switch. Now I do backend work (with higher TC as an added bonus, but not my goal). Highly encourage you to switch. Money will come your way eventually, no need to try to optimize this early in your career.
