PM L6, Amazon Luxembourg (2 years London) Yoe - 9 (4 years at Amazon) Old TC - 110k New TC - 270k (London) Happy to answer any questions related to Amazon EU careers from my perspective. Rant: Lowballed hired at L4 (didn’t know the game well then). Saw many of my juniors being hired at 1-2 levels above me at 1.5 - 2x tc. Worked my asz off for promotions for peanuts and the vicious cycle of forte, reviews and minuscule pay raises just to see the greener grass. Wasnt greedy at all and just wanted a fair pay but no one decided to give a f*ck. Eventually decided to gtfo of this stupid system of abuse and exploitation. Might sound stupid but it took 4 episodes of squid game to discard all this subjective LP propaganda bullshit and play it cool with a no fucks given attitude. To those who feel stuck in policies and giving there blood and sweat to this company, it’s not worth it imho. There are much greener pastures waiting for you if you are ready to get out of the comfort zone and do the interview prep grind. It might not be a bad company if you come at the right level and right pay and under the right manager. But else it’s not worth it. The opportunity cost you will take by joining at a lower salary and lower levels will cost you a lot on your mental, physical and social health. #amazon
International mobility at Amazon is pretty good. If there’s a Role, just ping the hiring manager, introduce yourself and start networking in target country. Should be easy.
What is the "right level"? L6+? Also how do you make sure that you have the right manager before joining?
In non-engineering roles, anyone who ‘feels’ like having ‘sincere’ 5 years of experience and decent education should not join below L6. Objectively, people with imposter syndrome feel like they are not there just yet and a combination of opportunity cost (mainly 3rd world candidates)/visa sponsorship makes them get a confirmation bias that L5 is good enough. But when you come in, you see there are just way too many retards, dinosaurs and pseudo steve jobs at L6+ levels. These are my personal thoughts and ymmv. You can get a first impression of manager based on their career trajectory. By good manager, i mean accomplished enough to manage you in your personal opinion.
What kinds of jobs can you get to achieve that kind of TC in London? Used to work in London, and the pay is horrible. Only lawyer and bankers can easily get to 6 figures.
A Senior Dev with ~5 YOE can very feasible get 6 figures, and doesn’t even need to be at FAANG or some company like that.

What org in Luxembourg? Did you start at Amazon in London and now you’re moving back to work elsewhere?
Started in London, SCOT org. Moving back to London as didn’t appreciate Luxembourg because of poor tech work opportunities and Amazon monopoly in employment causing low salaries at a very hcol for eu
Thanks for the post OP. How'd you get into the pm track?
Interviewed internally, there are shit load of openings as PM. In most cases the hm not being a pm ever in career and not knowing what a pm exactly does. Most of the PM roles in Amazon are nowhere relevant to what a PM does in a proper tech company. So, it’s super easy to come in as a PM in Amazon but finding a good one is extremely difficult. They now call the proper ones as PMT and i used to be in tech role before. With a little smooth talk lp preparation, i was able to transition.
Wow! That is.. Eye opening to say the least. Thanks! I'm here in India as it just seems impossible to get into PM without a goddamn MBA. I think I'll apply to amazon London next year, and become a pm the easy way with some sightseeing on the way. F**ck MBA.
How was Amazon London? Thinking of joining it as a new grad. The only reason I'm choosing Amazon is because there seems to be an easy way to transfer to the States in ~2 years. Sadly, there are not that many other companies that are as good as Amazon for international relocation :(
Yeah, depending on what you are optimising for Amazon does offer internally mobility as its greatest pro. Amazon london is good if you negotiate hard enough and come in at top of the bands. Else, the culture is not worth it and london does have amazing opportunities so it doesn’t suck like Luxembourg if you come in on a visa.
is the culture similar to what's been said on blind, like fear of PIP, horrific on calls, bad wlb? I've heard from some people that UK office is more lax
New company?
Can I DM you regarding London opportunities? Have someone who I am trying to help out. Thanks.
Sure

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I have offer for amazon canada but I really want to move to netherlands or sweden in the next couple years. Is that possible for internal transfer from canada to europe?
Depends on the role. Atm there are not many roles in NL and Sweden (exception of sales, bd and vendor ops). But if they open roles, i do not see any reason why you can’t move. It’s a very friendly company when it comes to international mobility.
Thanks frogplash
