I have been working with a Google recruiter since June 2022, but I have been told about hiring freeze, then no options for that position, then no manager HC needs, and now to reach back in Feb. Do you know if G is still hiring? Is it still hiring generalist or now it only targets some teams/orgs? Anyone from AR/VR infra (EngProd) here? Meta IC6, 12YOE, TC ~450k depends on stonks #google #EngProd #pe
Google in general is not hiring freeze as many teams are hiring (not az crazy as 2021, more like 2018 head counts). ARVR team in particular is not doing great; they moved to labs under clay which is not a good outlook. The good AR team is Google lens (which is under search) or Geo or Core. My team has ~20 head counts but they mostly got filled with internal transfers (from Stadia).
Why is it not good to be in labs?
Clay is a great person, but AR core moved from product org to a research org (labs) that is not the actual research (under jeff), potential target for layoffs.
Do you really want to join an experimental hardware org ahead of potential layoffs?
Dude, I'm in Meta, the whole company basically sits on the bet in experimental hardware and software...
G is still hiring, but only experts in hard-to-hire areas.
Cloud still hiring bunch
Ok this matches to what the recruiter said - only specialised positions and they have to "match" me with a role before we even do onsite.
