I'm getting ready to exit Amazon. Thought it was going to be the right move for me, but it has been really disappointing. Seems like Google's Boulder office doesn't have much going on though. Are they shrinking that location or is the turnover really low and they just aren't hiring? TC: 260k
I've heard that due to (mostly) frozen headcount they aren't hiring much in this office. May be changing but last I checked Boulder was one of their larger offices and they had plans to grow it considerably right before the pandemic.
Depends on what day you went and whether it was a core work day, also they are emphasizing people being in office so it may increase. It wasn’t too crowded when I went but it’s like that in some MTV offices too.
The Boulder office is supposedly the "happiest" office based on internal surveys. Good amount of sun/nature around but the folks are typically more family oriented, i.e. probably less likely to want to stay back for happy hour and the like FWIW I also came over from Amazon
Yeah, I live in the area and fit in pretty well given my affinity for running, climbing, and skiing 😂. I think it's all the physical activity that makes people happy. Nothing worse than a sedentary lifestyle
Pearl, 2600, or Walnut?
I toured the building(s) that's in between Pearl and 30th, just north of Walnut.
My wife works at Amazon Boulder, there’s much less going on there than Google Boulder
Boulder always seemed liked a retirement center to me. Everyone there was always coasting imo
Ughhhh, don't want that. I'm just not ready for that at this stage in my career. That's a huge part of the reason I went with Amazon instead but Amazon is SO hit or miss with your manager and unfortunately, I got the miss this time.
Google doesn’t really have significant projects outside the big bases. Boulder is one of those, get paid well, live a good life with wlb, and don’t expect much progression places. If you enjoy your project, and the excellent nature in the area, boulder is great!
At all hands events I’d estimate at least a couple thousand people work in the Boulder buildings. There are I think 6. Office is very busy T/W/R. Lots of affinity groups and activities. Most days I have to park on bottom level of garage. Lots of people work hybrid so a lot of ebb and flow. Remember that a lot of roles may not call out Boulder but it’s allowed. Boulder is a favorite location of employees but recruiting often steers against calling it out due to its lack of diversity. As you know Boulder is painfully white.
Turnover is low, and not hiring
If you get hired for a remote position, can you still go work from the Boulder office? When I toured that office it was an absolute ghost town with tons of empty desks but that was 8 months ago
If you’re remote you’re not supposed to go in more than a couple of times a month.
