Need recommendations from people in these places. I have gotten an offer for google, flexible location bw boulder and pittsburgh. Points that i am looking for - Weather (most imp) - better growth opportunities both personal and professional. - easy to make social group. No friends at either places. Appreciate any inputs. Current location- Atlanta Tc: 235k
Boulder is gonna be the milder winters, the less rainy summers, etc, but the annual PNW wildfire smoke will make the air absurdly toxic for a few weeks every summer. Pittsburgh is a cooler city by far, it it’s got that eastern weather, it gets cold and humid etc

Doesn’t Google have small office in Atlanta? I’m curious if you chose the Atl location if you could end up effectively being remote since they don’t have much of an Eng presence. I think it’s mostly marketing there
What was sign on bonus please? I'm expecting an offer too
What is the total comp for you?
Waiting on offer from comp committee
I work in the Pittsburgh office. It's definitely smaller than most of Google's locations, but there are some perks. The tech community in Pittsburgh has grown a lot, mainly because of CMU's presence, there are a lot of self driving car companies as well as small startups in the area, which means if you want to leave Google, you have some nice options. It's cloudy a lot here and making friends depends on how outgoing you are. There isn't too much to do in terms of pastimes. Since the the pandemic,Google shopping, which is mainly based in Pittsburgh has become one of alphabet's big bets, so lots of room for upward mobility there too.
How is the cost of living between the two? I plan to buy a house in next one year so is the real estate more chesp in Pittsburgh?
Idk about Boulder, but in Pittsburgh, the cost of living is definitely below average. I live in an apartment but multiple people I know have townhouses on L3/L4 salaries.
What did you choose?
What did you end up choosing op?
PGH is dope
How is the weather? I have heard it’s extremely cold
Not really extremely cold. Similar weather to the rest of the east coast. Good international scene because of the universities.
