does anyone here work at Google Cloud in Seattle on the UX team. Seems like they have some autonomy and ability to move faster than other Google teams. But have only taked with a PM about the team. I am wondering if the projects are interesting and work is enjoyable? Pros/Cons/Stay away?
My team had 4 UX people leave google in a 10 month period. 3 were there less than a year. Went to microsoft and other Seattle tech companies. Thereās a general lack of direction and consistently changing priorities. Constant reorgs also caused issues since teams were never able to complete projects. Many new UX people were also down-leveled coming in, so much to the point that leaving google gave them huge promotions in their new roles. If you like cloud products (Iām not judging), then itās fine. But overall, Cloud UX isnāt going to build a great portfolio. Itās just good for your resume.
This is really great context. Thank you! I am looking for enjoyable work. Constantly shifting priorities is def not going to give me that.
Now keep in mind, youāll get great pay in the tech field. Itās not a ābadā gig to have, but you have to go in knowing why youāre there. The company is obviously solid and has great benefits. But donāt go in expecting to own a great statement of work that will last 2-3 years and is something you can build your career off of.
Try to avoid cloud if possible at google.
Is it really that bad
The people that say itās bad, do you work in the Cloud group? Or just hear say?
Always stay away from cloud SWE teams
