Google Comp discussion

Does the comp discussion with HR come after you pass hiring committee? I have been through all interviews and even had a few team match discussions but no comp discussion whatsoever. Just wondering if that is normal at Google?

Don’t join google... it makes u dumb

Microsoft JorgeJuan Jan 23, 2018

Why? Can you please elaborate. I am not trolling

Google Svl Jan 23, 2018

They mostly under hire u and give u less opportunity to demonstrate your skills

Microsoft Coldfeet Jan 23, 2018

Same here ... in interview process ... not a word about comp ... seems risky for a big expectation disconnect for both sides

Microsoft JorgeJuan Jan 23, 2018

If you have a competing offer with deadline, recruiter will be interested to some discussion, but otherwise no

Competing offers can get u a lot of comp. Otherwise low-ball. What level u targeting?

Oath YOLOFOMO OP Jan 23, 2018

I took it as Google is so confident about their comp and benefits that matching comp or even better comp than others is not something they worry about. I could be totally wrong. The fact that interview process is long and you go through so many loops with HC and VP approvals, one would assume that it’s better to discuss comp early so both sides don’t waste time and end up rejecting an low ball offer if an offer is given.

Look up other threads on blind about recent offers from these companies. You may want to keep in mind the median or upper end of the range, once asked for your expected compensation.

Expect to get low ball offer if you don’t have competing offer

My recruiter asked about my expectations up front. Guess it just depends on the recruiter?
