My friend has 4 years of work experience and is past the interview stage only to find that she is being considered for L3. Is there any way to negotiate that into an L4 position? L3 salaries are barely higher than her current salary. She has an offer from another company at 240k annual which seems high for an l3.
Get an offer for L4 or similar from other company and tell Google about the offer. Keep in mind, the power to walk away is the biggest bargaining chip during negotiation. After SVP review they might give her L4 if they seem convinced.
What’s SVP?
Senior VP
need another round of interview if they agree
I was in a similar situation and unfortunately for me google did not agree to raise levels . However , I plan on possibly interviewing again this year because I have been preparing for a switch anyway and they have an invite out for me to come onsite
How long since you last interviewed for L3? Is there a cooling period?
It’s been almost 2 years , cool off is 1 year . I have heard google will anyway postpone for up to 1 year in some cases .
I actually make more than 240k as an L3. So tell her to just wait and see what they offer. Never know
Can I ask for more details? I have 1yoe and am in team matching, past HC right now. I have another offer for ~170k, but it's a lot less liquid than Google. I've heard both that >170 is both common and rare. I have the educational pedigree but not necessarily the experience for a higher than average L3 tc
If you come in at the right time like right before a stock boom, 240k is a piece of cake for L3
It's easy. Blow away the interviews
Tell her to take the other job then. Google is not be all end all. If she can get a good opp and more money somewhere else go for it. Don’t forget, the grass is not greener on the other side
