Oathdemoralize

Google GCP Team

I keep getting hit up by google to come interview for the GCP team. I’m a seasoned female product owner with significant federal experience and a couple years management under my belt, so I get why they are after me. Anyone over there have general feelings on the team, pay, what not? I didn’t want to leave Oath without a package but Google keeps reaching out so maybe it’s a sign.

The offer rate after applying is less than 2%. Get the offer first then you can worry about the rest.

So that’s part of what I’m looking for, I’m relatively happy where I am and I have a standing offer at another company if Oath fails... but Google is being so persistent reaching out to me I am wondering why that is, and if it’s worth it to investigate. Hearing the hiring rate is so low makes me think it’s just a wide net I’m constantly caught in. Thanks!

It's because GCP is running out of candidates who meet our filters. We've been on a hiring spree lately and the pool is starting to dry up

2% seem awfully low. Is this for manager roles or in general?

Lots of growth and headcount in GCP, but hiring bar is also very high - so you have recruiters who will want to meet their onboarding target numbers, but most won’t make it pass the interviews/HC. It’s not up to the hiring manager but an independent HC that determines whether you are a hire or not

Google Mow Oct 26, 2018

It does not mean anything indeed. Recruiter is crazy to try every possible candidate as it’s hard to hire enough people.

Google hiring process is very, very slow. It can take months from phone screen to on-site to hiring committee approval to final team match. Only then will you find out the package. And after that, you will still need final VP approval.

I’ve heard of a few hires that have sped through the process. But all the stars have to align - you ace the interviews, HC concludes strong hire across the board, you have a lot of senior googlers write you amazing recommendations, and most importantly, you have a competing offer in writing (existing employer doesn’t count)

This is the other reason I think they continually reach out. Somewhere in their system I am an internal reference from a now senior VP at Google. :) I was his protégée at another company.

What is the downside of interviewing? Go through and see what they have to offer. You look intrigued

The downside is it's an extremely time-consuming process which you inevitably get emotionally invested in, simply because the bar is set so high. I'm 24 hours away from a GCP HC response...man time is passing so slowly.

@wrqR15 how did it go?
