Google Hardware L6 offer

One of my interviews literally with Rick. I believe they all went well. I’m currently ICT5 at Apple and not really actively looking, Google approached me. What should I ask for in TC and breakdown? I am not willing to come for less TC than currently receiving at Apple.

1M unvested or 1M per year? Google can surely gives you 1M grant. But that said, if you're passionate about hw maybe you should stay at Apple.

Good luck OP - do post details back once you get it. When I got here at L4, Google offered HW folks like us about 80% of SWE grants and refreshers. Assuming that’s true for higher levels I would expect them to be able to match and exceed your 430k TC. You may need to negotiate to get there though. On top of that you’d get refresh grants so would go higher in the future.

Solid - 72k over 4 years for L4 (ICT3) EE. Equivalent SWE refresh is 84k. At L6 EE I think SWEs get something like 180, so if proportionality holds maybe HWE would get 150ish? Could be off but maybe roughly correct.

Yeah, like I mentioned, I didn’t even know who he was until after I looked him up. But as far as “trash”... it’s because the comp levels for hardware plain and simple. The range I am seeing for L6 is barely equivalent to principal engineer at Apple. Your simply not going to get top talent to come there because it’s “not Apple” or free food. You get what you pay for. Period.

I agree - we're hiring sub par teams on the tech side. Ex motorola cronies who were BFFs with Rick and engineers who aren't even excited about their own products they design. I bet if you looked at the phones many of the eng team is using it wont be a pixel

Two things you can negotiate are base and RSU. Start with 1.5M maybe drop to 1.4M. Make sure your base is slightly better than Apple. And as someone that has made the switch from a high ICT5 Apple to G think twice. Actually don’t do it.

SW and hardware is worse. But worse you can work with however they do have the we are G thing which makes change difficult. One thing to consider L7 provides a significant upside on any Apple comp. so the one reason to switch might be you could get to 750k like TC which I don’t see happening at Apple.
