Okay so I got my hiring committee feedback today. Recruiter said I did really well in 3/5 interviews. They said overall, the only real criticism that I got is that I wrote my code fast and missed some edge cases. They said I had a great trip on data structures and algorithms. 2/5 interviewers said I missed some edge cases, one of them said I did well still, but missed minor edge cases. But the other idk, seemed like he didn't vote strong hire, I missed one bigger edge case for his problem. I was applying for Pittsburgh. He told me the headcount was tight in Pittsburgh, so if I want to go there, I have to wait another year to apply. Because I was borderline and lack of HC to justify giving me a hire rec. But he said if I were open to more locations (I am), he could try for Mountainview. So he said he would look for teams there, since there's more headcount. And resubmit my packet through hiring committee in MTV. Has anyone been through this before? I'm glad I'm getting another shot, I would love to move to the bay area too. I know it'll likely be another reject :( but fingers crossed.
This sounds odd. Typically HC decisions are global, if pittsburgh HC rejected you then MTV should automatically not discuss your packet as another one already did.
It's interesting that they are willing to lower the bar for mountain view. (No offense OP. Just trying to understand the reasoning on Google side.)
They not necessarily lower the bar, they may come back with a suggestion to hire at lower level out of two levels possible. Pittsburgh HC might have been looking for the higher level only.
Makes sense
And I'm okay with a lower level since I only have 2 YOE. The way my recruiter said it seemed like pittsburgh had very little headcount available
HC approval has anything to do with headcount ??
If you find a good team match the hiring manager can write a letter to go with your packet that may help the resubmission.
π π god I hope so.

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
What?
tl;dr, borderline yet failed Pittsburgh HC, small headcount had a factor it seemed, but also imperfect interview results now being submitted to the HC in the HQ
