This is my first time to post on blind and I need help from all of you, thank you in advance. Here comes the situation I'm facing. I've passed the hiring committee review for a SWE role and been waiting for more than 3 months for team matching since I got 2 team mismatches just right after my onsite interview (the start of June). My recruiter has been exploring opening positions hard and keeping me posted (It's very nice). I was told I was in a long queue and just needed wait patiently (it might be the case that my profile is not so attractive for teams having open positions) Anyway, recently I was contacted by the recruiter that if I'm interested in switching to Customer Solutions Engineer Role, which belongs to gTech Org. I have no idea what it looks like and what different it is comparing to SWE. There is rare information on the internet either, therefore I need your help on answering my questions. 1. Is it worth it to switching to the new Role (CSE)? I prefer SWE though. 2. What's the different comparing to SWE role? Is it easy to switch back to SWE? 3. I feel like being lower-valued if I considering that new role, but I have to still wait otherwise... Thank you again
Don’t take this. CSE is nothing close to swe. Keep waiting for swe opening. Regardless of what they tell you, going back to swe from cse is going to be very difficult
What I read from few posts is that the CSE role is more of sales engineer. In addition to your words, it looks true. Thank you
Hiring committee is valid for a year, it’s only been 3 months. Don’t give up
I've been tired of waiting... but you're right.
Nope nope nope
Thanks, I'll be keeping waiting
Don’t do it.
Right, I think I got the answer. Thanks
You’ll learn more about business and customers which is more important than being just a coder over the long term
Depends on the lvl your offered. SWE is first class citizen in Google, SWE's tc at lvl X is lvl X + 1 of a CSE. The likelihood of you landing something interesting to work on in CSE is higher tho in my opinion, particularly if you enjoy providing solutions and interact a bit more with people. CSE is not sale engineering.
Are you CSE? How’s the wlb.
Sure you’re a first class citizen but coding gets boring after a while
CSE is technical support role and involves interacting with customers every day. If you like SWE work, don't take CSE
If you like SWE, don’t take it. If you would like to switch to a customer related role, take it. Also $$$ can be a deal breaker.
By reading your post feels like you have problem talking
Hi thanks for your comment. Could you please explain more about `I have problem talking`? Which did you mean, talking on the team match or talking during the interviews?
I'll take a stab. In the paragraph you wrote, you omit certain words and use unusual phrasing. I'm assuming English isn't your primary language.
