Recruiter at Google India has asked for my compensation breakup details and asked to share offer letter and salary slips. Although I politely denied them citing Confidentiality clauses, the recruiter is persistent on them and said - "In India we need to share them, else you might be low balled by Compensation committee". I've 10+ YoE and have been interviewed for the Application Engineer role. My current TC is ~36L (29 Fixed + 3 Variable + 4 Bonus). Question 1: Is the recruiter right about the Compensation Committee low balling or just trying to take away any leverage I might have during negotiation? Not sharing the current TC details would hamper my offer or would it benefit it given my current TC? Question 2: What level (L4 or L5?) and TC can I expect? Recruiter said I'm being considered for L4 or L5 role but final role would be decided upon my current TC. #googleindia #googlesalary #negotiations #googlel4 #googlel5
They’re not going to roll out the offer until you provide the compensation details. If you share just the numbers, they’ll still ask for proofs.
Thanks. It's just feels weird. Each company wants to treat their documents and comp structures as confidential but when hiring forgets all that.
Oh, they ask for all kind of proofs. Payslips, Offer letters, ESOP statements, Proof of how many vested, how many vesting etc
Screenshots are enough for esop and stocks
Your ESOP management portal where you see your holdings and vesting dates and values?
Isn't the TC decided based on the job role and interview performance? Only in case of further negotiation from the candidates they'll ask for all these proofs, don't they?
So I thought. But they seem to have evolved to model where TC is based on your current TC. Or atleast that's what I'm experiencing.
Well I wonder what they will do if the candidate is not comfortable sharing the current comp details. Could they rescind the offer in the worst case?
OP, so finally how much did they offer?
Just got the breakup. Offered TC: 33(base) + 5 (bonus) + 70K USD (RSU, 4 year vest) Not sure if I should negotiate given base is pretty low compared to current
Thanks for sharing OP, is the 5 above joining bonus?
There is no joining bonus yet. I'm trying to negotiate.
OP regarding the offer you shared above - is that L4?

Why Worshipping Lord Ram Important in Hinduism?
Level is never decided based on TC. Level is decided by HC, TC is decided by compensation team. They don’t talk to each other. Also, unless you have competing offers you will be lowballed. G will definitely beat ur TC by 2X, but beating it by 3X depends on what other offers u have. And finally Congratulations!
Thanks. And do I need to share my current TC at all? I'm a bit uncomfortable sharing it given they are confidential documents. I know nobody really gives a damn about it, but find it ethically wrong.
U will ... u can haggle Nd try Nd get away with ur contract ... but it will provide the same info. They r not gonna just accept the relieving letter - I’ve tried.
