Google Job

So, google just reached out to me for the 4th time. 3x I have told them I do not have the technical acumen and did not feel like picking coding (python) up again. I love what I do at Microsoft but it would be a dream job to work for Google. This time I told the recruiter let put forth efforts to pick up python again (which I was not that good at) and give some efforts. It is a Manager role so she said it is not weight as heavy as if I was an IC, however would be important. Since I am basically starting over from scratch what coding language should I try to pick up and what are some good resources to use for the interview? I can’t turn them down and run from this anymore, plus I don’t mind being technical. TC -250 Salary -182 Lv- 65 15- YOE managing 5- years technical Thanks

Why do you say that?

Use Python3 and go through the “Blind75” problem set on neetcode.io

It's a trap. Google is on freeze. Very limited openings even for higher levels

It doesn't make sense but look at the past 6 weekly Google hiring freeze threads. They want to keep their pipeline fat and full but nearly everyone's stuck after the interviews in the team match stage because there are so few openings

They are keeping the pipelines filled to the brim but there is very little headcount so they are making people do interview loops *then* seeing if any team with reqs wants them. Plenty of people acing interviews not getting matched with teams.

Pretty red flag that you can't Google this for yourself

Microsoft gon4321 OP Sep 14, 2022

I can google but why not ask the forum. I can spend 5 weeks working in the wrong direction. Why spend my wheels when I can go to the source. Think smarter not harder

Google WjDY44 Sep 14, 2022

Hey it’s sounds like you are doubting yourself. Give yourself 4 weeks to prep, follow your plan, and do the interviews.

Microsoft gon4321 OP Sep 14, 2022

She gave me 5 weeks

Google WjDY44 Sep 14, 2022

Take one week to create a 4 week plan, then execute.

MSFT hiring or still in freeze? You can pick up python or Java. Blind 75 or Neetcode 150. For SD- grokking, ddia and Alex xu.

Manager roles should prep for system designs more than coding. You can request a code review round instead of an actual coding round. The recruiter should brief you about this too. And at least to me it’s pretty dreadful to hear negative outcome from interviews. So I can relate why you may hesitate. But you probably have nothing to lose if you don’t dial up the expectation too much. Also Google interview is a huge luck game so in theory if you keep playing (for free) you could win.

Thanks man and yes I have been avoiding it. I again like Microsoft but it’s google. Plus I do not mind coding as part of my job requirements and I have wanted to pick it back up. Your right the worst they can say is NO. And I have been told that many times. I also have been thinking if I want to move away from Microsoft I need the technical back under my belt otherwise I will not be able to grow financially like I want. The Google’s the FB, Netflix etc

Why python? Is that the language you knew best before? If not and you're more familiar with another language I'd say it might be worth considering using that. Also, second neetcode

Microsoft gon4321 OP Sep 14, 2022

Yes it is the one I picked up back in 2017 but have not done much with it since

Google owqJ68 Sep 14, 2022

Google might up to 2x your pay, so definitely give it a try. For leetcode, definitely use python unless you are super familiar with something else. Python is much less verbose and reads closest to plain english
