Assuming compensation gap is up to ~20-40k with Amazon offering more, which would you go for? I am currently L4 Amazon with guaranteed promo in next few months, and am rated TT. My pros & cons: G: Pro: - Top of band compensation for low expectation L3 - Great team (work & WLB) - Brand name Con: - Not L4 - Hybrid (rather than full remote) Amzn: Pro: - SDE 2 - Full remote - Higher momentum with TT Con: Unless I find & move to a new better team: - Shitty oncall - Unexciting work (heavy on ops) Which would you take (poll)? And for what reasons? ** Should note I interviewed @ 1.5 YoE
What yoe? Google really lowballs bad.
Don't downlevel because you think others would like the logo on the building better .
I don’t think there’s anything you can’t learn from Amazon but can at Google. Since you’re getting promoted to L5, you are doing good on the current team, no worry to be piped. Also you’ve built enough trust with your leadership, there would be more opportunities for you to take some leading roles. That’s more beneficial than moving to Google and start over
yeah honestly if it were both external it might be a tough question but it seems you're in a decent trajectory. if you cracked it once you could probably do it again in a year but for L4, or find an even better company
Don't take Google's downlevel bullshit. If you're doing good and can get some leadership opportunities you can try for senior in 1-2 years elsewhere
Why are you leaving when you clearly have good growth prospects where you are? That google job is a complete career reset. You would undo all your work at Amazon by taking it.
