Interviewed with Google's Pixel phone SOC team. Post-silicon debug/verification role. Really nice and impressive interview experience. L4 is not great but cannot complain given what has been going on. Had competing offer to get to this number, RSU may still have some room but not much. Location: MTV base: 171k target bonus: 15% = 26k RSU: 367k/4y , 33%,33%,22%,12% Sign-on: 10k average 4yr TC 299k, 1st yr 329k close to 7 yoe, most recently 2 years at Apple SEG as post silicon characterization engineer. Catch: Stay at Apple(CUP): 1. Better job security since people still buy iphone and Apple has not over-hired during pandemic like Google did 2. Likely to get promotion next year(ICT3->ICT4), getting tenure faster 3. Had a brutal first 8-month this year working on debug, working constantly over weekend but survived and chip shipped, now WLB is ok. 4. iPhone crush Pixel phone any day Jump to Google: 1. SOC team is relatively small, has better chance of making impact and grow in the future 2. Able to work on SOC architecture instead of small AMS block at Apple 3. Supposed better WLB :P and free food etc., the 'googleyness' 4. Google is finally realizing that selling a mediocre phone or watch is worse than not selling them at all, that's why they build TPU as SOC instead of just buy from Samsung or Qualcomm. They are actively investing in the HW team(hiring manager's reflection) Anyway, I have the most concern about two things, if you are at G, please shed some light: 1. How long promo happens at G for L4->L5 with exceed or meet evaluation? 2. How likely is Google's HW to have a game changing product? Beating Apple with Apple's playbook seems really hard. Current TC: 256k yoe 6.8 #hardware #interview #semiconductor #apple #google
Do you have a BS or MS?
MS in EE
If you’re certain about your ict4 promotion, stay at Apple. Then you can switch after promotion.
Sign on? and how are your RSU’s split? 33,33,22,12 don’t make sense for a total of 367
sign-on is 10k as written, not big updated, 33%,33%,22%,12% for vest schedule
Stay at Apple, if you want job security and for all the reasons you mentioned. Go to Google, if you’re open to taking a risk, with a possibility of growth and perks.
How long did they take to respond back with offer after the interview?
HW is direct hire so pretty quick, from panel to verbal offer took 8 work days
Whoa that's fast! How long did the entire process take starting from recruiter screen?
Really good offer. Maybe I need to start interviewing lol.
I joined Apple early 2021, package during that period actually is lower compared to before and after.. are you ICT3 too?
Joined around the same time and yes I’m also ICT3 with similar YOE in HWT. So would you recommend searching elsewhere? It seems like Apple is the only safe haven in this economy.
This is a good L4 offer, especially the RSUs.
Thanks!
Can you pls let me know about interview proc.. hv design pos interview
Congrars
I heard that L3-L4 would take 2y at G. 2-4y would be normal from L4 to 5.

Ok. Shouldn’t it be higher for MTV? Or has the market softened of late?
