Will be joining Google India as L4. TC offered : base 34.5L, RSU: 115K I'm currently working as an SDE2 at Uber for over a year. YOE: 5 I've been told that I'm being hired at the top of the band and I can expect promo within 2 years. I know recruiters overstate all the times, hence turning to Blind. 1- Is the recruiter bluffing about TC band? Is there significant room for negotiation? 2 - How long, on an average, it would take to reach next level? 3- Is it worth pursuing L5, both in terms of pay as well as responsibilities you get?

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Too many details missing to give you an accurate answer. Your yoe? Previous company? What org at Google?
Updated post
Average promos to L5 take 3-4 years, expecting one within 2 years as a lateral transfer is too much. You’ll take 4-5 months just to figure out the complicated tooling. Google tooling is proprietary and is completely different from the mostly open source stuff that Uber uses. I’d suggest directly getting in touch with your hiring manager and setting your expectations if you’re hell bent on doing this.
Vesting schedule of stocks, current company TC and any competing offer? To answer your question with the information given google median pay for L4 is around 68L L4 to L5 in best case would take at least 3 years
Stocks are front loaded. I've better competing offers but Google recruiter said it's best they can offer. I had to share competing offer to get this. Pretty sure they would have offered lesser otherwise.
You're getting seriously lowballed at rsu and base is average. Try negotiating rsu till atleast 180k, and yep as someone mentioned there is no getting fast promo here!
Recruiter is not ready to budge. Even though they asked for competing offers (which I shared too) that are atleast 20% better in pay. Recruiter is trying to justify that their offer is matching competing offer (front loading). At this point I'm more inclined to just say no to their offer.
So recruiters here don't budge that easily, just give them your expectations, that's atleast 15% more than than the highest competing offer and hang up the phone(do it politely ofcourse) and let them call you back. Could take 3-4 days but they'll definitely do, guaranteed.
It’s a decent offer for 1st year but definitely not top of the band for L4. Do the maths for 4 years as how much you would be making each year. Negotiate for more RSU’s
It comes out to be around 68 L for first two years, owing to front loading. Gets much worse for last two years. Last year at about 51 L
By then you'll also have two running refresher grants and would probably also get to L5. It's not wise to take into account your 4th year comp while taking a call now.
Try getting a competing offer more than G offered meanwhile and re negotiate if you are sold on joining google. Recruiter won’t budge easily so be ready to walk away from the offer in worst case.
I am walking away, pretty much decided. I've already shared competing offers.
Did you appear for extra rounds to get L5?
What CTC to expect for L5?
Nope, HM is also clueless / misleading you. While manager plays a role in promotions, they're still decided by a committee, so there's not too much a manager can do (short of creating a fake project for you). Median time for 4-5 is about 2 years (note the survivorship bias, though) but you would need some time to ramp up as well (to both Google and project -- and chances are, you might not be joining an established team given a lot of teams hiring are new).
BTW, Why haven't you posted this as an Uber employee?
Old account from prev company.
Lowball don’t join
The recruiter is bluffing or clueless 1. It is not top of band 2. There is no such thing as fast promo at Google
I've also had similar discussion around promo with HM. Is that reliable?
