Remaking poll but with updated numbers. Currently in first year at Google still, so TC is including YTD inflation. Google: TC today: 293k (originally 246k, but then inflation happened) Pros: - Can coast while preparing to continue interviewing Cons: - Not a remote role, RTO in January - Work is stagnant - No chance or promotion within 2 years FB (originally targeted E5, failed system design and got E4) TC: 295k Pros: - Remote role - Getting in early on building Metaverse - High chance of promotion within 2 years - Best benefits Cons: - Trash WLB - Only Year 1 is an upgrade. Year 2 comp is downgrade, Years 3+ hinge on promotion - It's FB, which I don't mind, but some people might DoorDash TC: 324k Pros: - Remote role - Working on 0-1 project - Generous refreshers - Technically an upgrade (~10% in the short-term) Cons: - Worst WLB & benefits - Worst tech - E5 comp for my area is below the average for E5 Currently working on referrals for LinkedIn, Airbnb, Robinhood, Pinterest if they get through, if I decide to keep interviewing. YOE: 6 Location: Not SF/NYC/SEA, not Florida/Texas/Midwest, in-between those two groups in terms of COL
If you don't mind WLB, choose FB. It a no brainer. You are almost guaranteed to e5 within 3 years, and you can do it in 1 year if you are really good. It's not promotion is easy, but just FB do not impose promotion quotas for e3/e4 and there are tons of opportunities. Don't buy the SJW shit about FB. FB is doing a tough business with lots of controversy and scrutiny. But I can tell you FB is doing it in the most responsible and transparent way.
I have 1 kid and will probably have a second in the next 2-3 years. That's the only thing that makes me think I probably can't go balls-to-the-wall on an E5 promotion, and that it might be safer to continue interviewing. What do you think?
What do people think about DD? I didn’t make it pass on-site for PM so I might have some sour grapes. But I just don’t see how they can be profitable in the long term. Their business model is essentially just like Uber, where they’re always going to be constrained by the amount of labor (drivers) available. The only network effect I can see is maybe they get so many restaurants to sign on exclusively that their selection rivals everyone else’s, but I don’t see why any restaurant would agree to an exclusivity deal. Beyond that I know they’re trying to move into delivery for retailers and stuff, but Amazon has that space well covered not to mention much bigger selection than most brick and mortar retailers. Idk, I just don’t see the long term viability of DD, so I’d be wary of joining. Look at Uber and Lyft and how stagnant their stock has been. Wouldn’t surprise me if DD went the same way eventually.
Absolutely no one in their right mind would think negatively of you if you were working at facebook. Prestige wise it is right up their with Google and probably prepares you for tougher positions you are going to take up in your career. I don't know about Google but fb over Doordash is a no brainer.
OP, can I DM for the Meta interview?
Can you share your FB and DD TC breakdown?
Stay at Google for best wlb. Come to DD for career growth. Moving to fb at same level and TC doesn't seem like adding much value.
Stay at Google and interview for better companies!
I vote keep interviewing and keep looking. Sounds like you have two years until a chance at promo and at doesn’t sound like you are under any external pressure to leave so time is on your side. Dd is a straight up sweat shop. But dd is desperate for ppl, use that to your advantage when negotiating offer if you really come. But again, I vote to keep looking elsewhere.
FB and Google look good on resumes for future opportunities and the stock will last. Door dash is not a faang and won’t open as many doors. Also the biz model is built on labor exploitation which makes it a time bomb.
