Got an offer from Google GCP team. L5 PgM. Still initial offer as I am still negotiating with recruiter. Base 150k. 15% bonus. RSU 120k sign on bonus 30k puts 1st year TC approx 230k. Currently TC at Oracle is 210k. Not a huge jump. Oracle cloud isn't going anywhere. yoe 15 Other advantages of moving to Google Tier 1 brand can try out TPM, PM roles later technology shorter commute I interviewed at LinkedIn, FB for PM and TPM roles didn't make it. No competing offers to negotiate. Am I being lowballed? Should I take it? Any tips on how to negotiate given no competing offers.
Likely since it's your initial offer, but interview performance affects TC. I got similar offer for L4, ended up going with LinkedIn which was higher.
I thought PMs are branded as one level higher. That is L4 PM is equivalent to L3 SWE; L5 to L4 and so on. If that is true, you are underleved and hence lower pay
He said Pgm not pm ...
How long did it take to hear back you got an offer after your onsite?
2 months
This looks low. What level are you at Oracle? I went 210K -> 350K (swe) Wouldn’t bother switching for 10% increase.
M3 at Oracle. Unfortunately lots of layoffs at Oracle mostly cloud. Shaky.
How are the RSU refreshers at Google?
PgM at Google don't get paid as much as SWE. That's true across the valley.
The conversion is approximately 70% of SWE. It isn't much of a low-ball, unless you're coming in with some very specific skills.
Honestly, for a program manager, that's a great package! Take it. If it was PM, then I would say low but not program manager.
The problem is I have been a PM all along in other places including Oracle. But maybe switch to PM after some time at Google. Still have to go thru interview but may not be that bad.
Product manager is a different ball game than program manager. Like you rightly pointed, it would be a different interview.
This is very close to what I got offered. After a year I go refreshers and the stock went up so I was making 270k/yr.
Most of the L5 salaries you see are for swe. TPMs make 75% of that and PgMs make 80% of TPM. It’s a good offer
Seems like they did a great job on the offer as it’s not way too high on their end and it’s still high enough to make you accept it. There’s no reason not to switch to google given the above. Even if you can’t negotiate any higher
Thanks. I felt pretty depressed looking at my offer compared to other L5 numbers posted in Blind. I am a woman too so was worried if I was being lowballed due to gender.
It’s not a drastic raise (only 10%) but that money adds up each year. Plus you’ll have Oracle and now Google on your resume. That’s really impressive. And you won’t have to pay for lunch anymore :)
