Is Israel getting bad PR the reason for banning tik tok?
9 years experience working in a small startup in the past 3 years. Unfortunately, the startup is going nowhere. Interviewed a few companies and got the following offers. Please help me choose. I currently live in the bay area while the Amazon team is in Seattle so need to relocate. I like Google’s culture and location but Amazon has better comp and level. Preparation: Coding: solved 200 LC problems. The top 150 and leetcode 75 seems good enough to cover all areas. Studied system design through github and YT. System design: I haven’t got involved with large scale system design during my career so system design questions were tricky. The following YT channels are great: https://www.youtube.com/@codeKarle and https://www.youtube.com/@SystemDesignInterview/videos. Since I haven’t interviewed for a while, I took two peer mock interviews on pramp and interviewing.io plus a couple paid ones on meetapro.com. Paid interviews on interviewing.io are pricer so I didn’t take paid one there. For peer mock interviews, I got paired with folks with less experience than me but it was ok to practice. Feedbacks from paid ones were much better though.
L6 is Senior not staff and is equal to G L5
Amazon L6 has more scope than Google L5 and can transition to M1 which is goog L6
I am bit unsure if this^ holds for Lin Staff too? Lin Staffs are horizontally equivalent to M1s here.
$560k base
Impossible lol I assume they just didn’t break it down
Not really, it is mostly base and bonus for the first 2 years but lazy to put in details
Amazon L6 is not staff. Is Google equity frontloaded? Offers alone indicate a wide gap between G and A. Unless you are too worried about Amazon culture, the choice seems obvious to me.
Yes, front loaded but just put in the average RSUs
You got 750k in RSUs? Then, you should change the poll to reflect the front loading part.
Amazon L6 is not staff, it’s senior. It is roughly equivalent to L5 at Google. So you got offers at the same level, but amazon is paying 130k more? Sheesh. What is amazon base and year 1 and 2 sign on?
Also Amazon in Seattle too wow
Lower cost of living (still pretty high) plus no state income tax. Huge advantage purely from a comp standpoint. Year 1 and 2 is mostly cash too. I’d probably take that and dip before year 3 if you don’t like it.
are you already in Seattle? If so Amazon is a no-brainer.
No, in Bay Area.
Don’t forget that there is no state tax in seattle
Amazon stopped paying this high in seattle last year. But guess not. Your offer seems highest in seattle for l6 from levelsfyi
Nah this is same as YoY TT at L6
I couldn’t find a single offer in seattle that paid more than 550k neither new nor old ones
Congrats on the both offers. How did you get interview at AZ?
Referral
Daaaaamn you don't have large scale system design experience and you got that monster L6 offer? Congrats!!
Well, I probably worked on middle scale system design not like twitter scale system
Oh sure thing that would do it. I thought you were saying you just bluffed your way through with generic study material- that would be mad impressive. Amazing offer regardless!
how did the system design interviews go? anything you'd have done differently in hindsight / tips for other L5 interviewers?
The sessions went pretty well. Mock interviews helped me a lot, especially on how to communicate with the interviewers.
Tips that worked for you pls share. Congrats!
Just because of the levelling, would say amazon. Will open doors for a lot of opportunities.
Amazon levels and Google levels are not used the same, these are equivalent levels.
Oh my bad, saw the staff vs senior.
