Was approached by Servicenow for a Director (M5) role. Is this an upgrade (scope & compensation) from Google L6? Levels.FYI says $745K TC (but that's just one data point) TC 525K (hit my cliff)
Can’t take any when you die
Is that even a question? Servicenow has great potential. If you can leave your comfort zone (which you should) then why not? Go ahead OP, live your dreams 🎉
Congrats! Are you a L6 IC or M?
YOE?
~20
If you’re not taking it I will wtf
WTF why your tc is still high after cliff?
500k for L6 looks normal
750 is way higher than reality. M and IC tracks follow the same / similar pay scales. Director is equivalent to IC6 (principal) which would net you maybe 500 tc. For context I'm an IC5 and my TC is between 350-400. Hard to know scope, since the Sr managers at Google I know vary greatly. Directors here are probably equivalent in that they oversee a single product area, but have multiple teams. Sr. Directors start to have multiple teams across product areas of the org.
What’s the WLB at $NOW?
For me it's great, but like anything... No one is gonna tell you not to work. You have to control your own destiny.
Jdlm81 is right. Assuming this is in the Bay Area (tier 1 market ) 500tc seems more accurate. Scope can vary a lot as well. There are directors with 2-3 IC5 direct reports, and there are directors with 30-40 IC2-3 people on their teams. Ask the recruiter - how many people will you manager and how many products or programs or whatever it is you do. I always thought Google would be a step up, but then of course lately not so much.
Thank you. And that’s $500K before 4 year cliff? Yes this seems like a bad deal (my $500K TC was after cliff)
The goal is not to have a cliff. Get Annual RSU renewals that equal a third of your new hire grant. Then by the time you in your 4th year the overlapping grants will keep you from any cliff. At least that’s how it has worked for me. No reason to leave this way. But yes 500tc for a director - but did we mention no layoffs
How much is enough
