Good morning Blind. First of all, I am so sorry for the people at Google being laid off. It's a sign of BAD times when the titans are all laying off people so rapidly, and I hope that those affected can bounce back easily. I do have a related question though. Does anyone know if there are upcoming or confirmed layoffs in the Google 'Public Sector' groups? This is the section of Google that handles Government work relating to Public Sector Cloud, intel, etc. blind tax: 236k #google #layoffs #cleared
I don't understand how do you people stand public sector in the sensitive sector. Working with these dinosaurs ages you. They're so slow , never learn from mistake and yet always have budget to mess up. It's a system built for continuous failing.
So... GOOD government systems are usually awesome to work with. You have a spread of mixed crap at older companies, but modern companies (MS, Amazon, Google) usually have awesome developers, great WLB, and your job is rock-solid secure because it's not clogged up with H1B visa holders.
OP, I was in one of these teams in AWS and I can tell you, there were no WLB. Team culture was ego-centric and toxic. No diversity and extremely ineffective and inefficient. Honest words. Can't say which sector or what I was doing but just my experience.
What is the process for getting clearance?
Join the US military and get permitted to read highly classified material, or jump straight into the Government as a civilian and undergo an insanely long investigation (>18 months)
18 months after they told me my 75 year old dad had a communist job in Beijing . I disclosed it at my application but it took gov 18 months to figure it out
Yes, I saw a few in my LinkedIn from the cleared GC space saying they’ve been laid off.
Could you PM me a link to this?
Let me try to find it again.
PM’d you
OP, did you ever get any other info on this? I'm curious as well, I'd like to join that division but it doesn't look like they're hiring ATM.
Sounds like the perfect place to rest and vest. Government level of slow work combined with Google pay benefits and status while getting to keep my clearance active. Sounds like the dream. A recruiter just reached out today so the timing is perfect
For a SWE role? Are they hiring cleared SWEs? Did you have a clearance at meta? I read somewhere meta did a tiny amount of cleared work, they didn’t say what for. I assumed VR.
Nah, I still have my clearance active from my previous job, and it hasn't been 24 months since I left that job. I'm looking into security consultant roles at Google since they acquired Mandiant

suddenly those Lockheed recruiters are lookin preeettty good 👀 But seriously, I've been interviewing with Google, and would hate for them to get slammed by a layoff mid-process. But either way, it's better than joining and THEN getting laid off.
I have been thinking about joining cleared space of Google or Amazon or Microsoft.
