How big should I expect to be the difference for L4 (7 yoe) of TC between Munich and Zurich?
You'll be financially better off in zrh. Higher base, higher COL, lower taxes
About 20-30%
You wanted to say 200-300%?
Of course not. Google pays pretty generously in Munich too, way above average. Pity it mostly goes to taxes tho
lmao, why would you ever consider Munich over Zurich? The pay is shit in comparison, taxes are ridiculous and your QoL is going to be so much higher in Switzerland. Expect to take home at least twice as much in Zurich as in Munich.
I don't see the problem? Anything is better than Germany (and especially Munich)
A few reasons to consider Munich: - People speak nicer German (easier to learn) - Much bigger city (more to do) - People seem happier - More vacation days - Top tax bracket is like 42%, that's in line with California. How ridiculous is that? But if money is all there is in your life, then yeah, stay in Zurich
OP: you should expect like 100k Eur in MUC And maybe 150k francs in ZRH. Just know that 1 eur=1.1 francs
More like 250k CHF.
USApotato, OP is asking about TC, not base
For me there is a black hole 🕳 of informations regarding costs and taxes in Zurich. I am well aware of the taxes from Munich. And taxes are just ridiculous in Munich. Yes, I agree everything is cheaper in Munich compared to Zurich. Can anyone share some info how taxes vary according to salary in Zurich?
Mind you, not everything in Munich is cheaper and a lot of things aren't that much more expensive in Zurich (e.g. housing). Taxation is relatively straight forward throughout the year. You're taxed at source and your GSUs are taxed at the standard withholding rate (~39%). You can find the tax rates for your monthly salary here: https://www.steueramt.zh.ch/internet/finanzdirektion/ksta/en/spezialsteuern/quellensteuer/arbeitnehmende_arbeitgebende/tarife.html - your tax rate for your base salary should be below 15%. At the end of the tax year, you'll have to file a tax return where the actual tax rate is calculated (only if your income is >120k). Depending on your expenses etc., you might end up getting a refund. This is also where the actual tax rate of your GSUs and your bonus is calculated. Even with a TC of 360k, you'd be looking at a <25% effective tax rate (and <20% for 240k).
I am curios what should I expect as high costs for Zurich when: - already married - wife also in IT - kid is 5 years old
Taxes are high in Munich if you are single. If you are married the tax rates are much lower. If couple have similar TC of 100K,effective tax rate is 29%. If there is a disparity in pay of the couple, the high earner can have even lower tax bracket.
Zurich atleast 150 base, but in Munich not much. Cost if living in Zurich is higher.
