I've received an offer from Google for an L5 position in Seattle, as an ML Software Engineer. The role is hybrid, with 3 days required in the office: Base Salary: $195k Equity: $400k over 4 years (front-loaded) Bonus: 15% Sign-On Bonus: $10k Total compensation (TC) for Year 1: $384k. For comparison, my current TC at WBD is $380k. I'm at the Staff MLE level, which is roughly equivalent to Amazon L6. While I'm currently working fully remotely, this may change in the future. The company has its challenges, but the wlb is good. My long-term goal is to transition into people management. At WBD, making this move would be lateral, at the moment there are no opportunities within my current team. However, at Google, such a transition is only possible starting from L6. Given the circumstances, does it make sense to switch roles, especially since it feels like a "downlevel" and the TC is almost the same? I already have Meta and Microsoft in my resume. You’re doing good at WBD. Not worth jumping to Google without a good pay raise.
No, 43 years old
I wouldn’t jump for anything unless pay > 500K
Should be pay>500 MILLION!
Pitiful offer. Try to negotiate
Lowball, you don’t jump with 0 pay increase because it is a decrease in long run. Google is not worth it nowadays
That’s my expectation for L4 MLE
Why take pay cut
This is a huge low ball, ask for 500k and see where they land
This is probably the first offer. Negotiate and you’ll definitely land better numbers than this. Good luck.
