I just passed hiring committee yesterday and unlike the posts where people receive an immediate offer from the recruiter, I wasn't given anything and was instead asked what my expectations for first year TC would be. We had yet to discuss any compensation numbers previously. I have not negotiated a salary in almost a decade, so grandpa here is a little rusty. Should I give an exact number, or a range? Have you encountered this before and how did you navigate it? What would you do again if you had the chance? TC: $350k #google
Just look at levels fyi if it's tech. I find it quite helpful. Always give a higher range.
+1 levels.fyi is pretty helpful
I asked for 600k for a l5 and got it for year 1 (signon bonus), but that was 1.5 years ago. I didn't do ranges, just 600k
This is quite misleading. A more realistic picture is TC over 4 years with stock and sign on evened out over that period. Median L5 in HCOL is around 400k
@RwMb15 When you give them a number for stocks, then they split that up four ways (one of the various vesting schedules I've seen), so only consider 38% of what I want in first year?
https://www.levels.fyi/companies/google/salaries/software-engineer Lookup your level and ask for median to top end based on where you stand. Your ask is just an input
Did you get a team match ? That’s a big step before the actual offer
Yes, I went through TM before HC.
hey op, can you share your interview ratings? I will be going through HC hopefully next week, just wanted to compare if I have a decent chance of passing. Anxiety is killing me. 😟
You gonna get pwned
Joke is on you, I've been getting pwned
