Google PM Resources

I wish I knew of all these resources prior to interviewing @google. I made it to the HC without any mock interviews, paying for a service (alliance, exponent, etc) Had overall positive feedback but didn’t pass HC, so I get a retry and get to skip straight to last rounds in a few months. Anyone prepping, I highly suggest signing up to these services. It helps fill in the gaps you may miss interviewing without. Some of the services I’m using currently: - slack channel (Lewis C. Lin) free mocks - exponent ($150 a year) cheap… (free mocks) - exponent for professional mocks - 5 mocks for 1k - YouTube Good luck! @google #google #tech #product #productmanager #product #pm

What did you like in exponent? Is it only for the mocks? I found the answers lacking depth and some were downright incorrect. For example, in a metrics rca interview the PM starts from macroeconomic factors and then funnels down to internal factors which is wrong! Any other resources you found interesting?

Honestly, I just signed up because most of the YouTube videos I watched were from them. I agree 100% as I continue to watch some of these videos, I’m in shock that I didn’t pass the HC. In my head, I’m correcting all of these “faang PMs” answering these questions. I just watched one. “If South Korea needed to choose a vendor for google maps, how will you choose one” The dude legit defined the solutions prior to talking about users. He didn’t talk about the companies mission, vision, etc… So I agree with you… My strategy interview at google, I had a horrible experience. The interviewer asked me to skip talking about users and get straight to soltioning a strategy. Later on into the interview he realized users were important so asked me to define them. It’s luck, lots of luck. Getting the right person and question.

I just fell flat on my face during the on-site after using product alliance. I stumbled my way through the product execution question. I could seriously have used some mock practice first. I was totally lost on what the interviewer was looking for. The interviewer seemed noticeably displeased with me, I almost didn’t want to finish the next 4 interviews. I didn’t get any feedback but I’m pretty sure that person would have put a strong no hire.

What do you mean by stumbled? Long silence? Why do you think the interviewer was disappointed? Sometimes it’s hard to gauge your own performance

We could not agree on metrics. I was trying to stay user focused. Also the question was about Facebook, where I had interviewed the week earlier, I tried to use info I had picked up from those interviews, but I was told that it was wrong and that’s not how FB worked. When I say displeased, the interviewer started getting pretty testy with me towards the end as if I was wasting their time. No time saved at end to discuss, they just noted that we didn’t enough time to complete and they had to go. Overall the worst interview experience of the day. Almost everyone else was super nice and easy to work with. But I definitely did not make a good impression on the first person. It was very discouraging.

Yea google wasn’t the best. I had an issue with my metrics one too. I killed it imo, but the woman just couldn’t understand why I chose engagement and watch time. She kept trying to tell me add clicks made more sense. There isn’t a wrong or right answer Tbey all could be right. Sometimes these interviewers get big heads
