No, in some cases you can be paid higher. It depends on your partners and your target quota.
The compensation mix is usually different for partner or sales engineers.
Software engineers get a base bonus and RSUs. Partner and sales engineers typically get base bonus commission and RSU's. There's always going to be huge bonuses on commissions over 100%, typically two or three times your regular commission rate once you hit over your target. This means if you get 150% of your target for the year you'll be making significantly more than a software engineer with the same time.
