Googlers - Currently at MSFT but looking to switch. Wanted to know about Google's GovCloud org - it's culture, wlb, ops vs dev, etc. Most of my work right now is operations. I started out with some coding work, but it turned into mostly ops. Felt like a bait and switch. Is it the same at Google? I hear similar stories about Amazon and OCI. Was your org affected by layoffs? #google #cloud #gcp
Google Public Sector LLC was established as a separate entity last year. We mainly have Customer Engineers (Pre-sales), Cloud Engineers and consultants, technical account managers ( PSO) and Operation Engineers for GDCH. As a part of Jan layoffs , all TAMs L5 and above were laid off and will be replaced by L3 TAMs , consultants and cloud engineers in PSO were not affected. If you are SWE , try for GDCH SWE team ( not part of Public Sector LLC) - they are hiring agressively and they will not be affected by layoffs as we are one of the cloud providers who received the JEDI contract recently.
What's GDCH?
Google distributed cloud hosted
TC?
So are you LLC folks still considered Google employees with the same status and perks and could you transition to big Google at a later date or are you just a chump working for a subsidiary they can decide to flush at any time?
Google Public Sector LLC is a subsidiary of Google Cloud - it comes under Google and the leadership reports to Thomas Kurian. It's not Alphabet's bet like Waymo or Verily.
With regards to perks, we work in the same office where all Googlers work and we get all the perks.
Did you interview with Google? How was your interview experience?

We don't do gov cloud, we fedramp all our US regions. Public Sector is a separate LLC and most of the roles there are going to be on the sales or PSO/services side. If you want actual development you'll need to still look at product teams with SWE roles
