I’m being potentially TM’d to GR as a SWE L4. But I have no phd or previous research experience. What do non-researchers do in GR? Support / devops code? TC 250k
Mostly BD and sometimes SM

I guess you'd support researchers. The typical format is researchers design algos / experiments and you implement / design the system to support them. Expect more ambiguity than usual

I think it's more fun than the generalist track but to each their own!
I’m also potentially being TMd into Google research as a SWE. Pretty unsure though if they will be able to keep their headcount since they are not exactly revenue generating. Sucks cause the team seemed awesome. OP did your recruiter mention anything about the headcount situation?
I TM'd with GR right before the freeze. Not expecting the role to still exist afterward :( If anyone actually hears any info please share it!
