Is there any tc difference between sre and swe?
Im going to be an SRE Intern at google this summer. What are the main differences between SRE and SWE outside of devops? Is the value of the work you do coding wise the same as SWE? Is there large influx of people switching SRE to SWE or the other way round? Is SRE at the start of your carreer a worse choise than SWE? Also is the bar the same?
SRE==SWE. SWE-SRE to SWE and SWE to SWE-SRE is a project change. You see people moving all the time. Coding is at least 50% Dev work + other cool stuff. For an internship, you will mostly be doing dev work.
Also SRE at Google is different from Devops/SRE at most of the places.
What level of coding is needed to crack SRE
Normal SWE interview for SWE-SREs.
How is SRE-SE?Can I expect to write automation code like SRE-SWE? AFAIK System has only one round of onsite coding which makes hiring easier for me I guess...
Same as SWE-SRE but you cannot transfer to other SWE roles like SWE-SRE. Tasks/Expectations are for all “SREs”, there is no distinction, however with background and team needs, some people get more tasks in System over dev/swe work.
Keep in mind SE-SRE interviews need ninja skills, I can probably never pass them.
Another QQ: what kind of cool projects are you and/or your SRE colleagues are working on? You can be general of course. I am trying to see how SRE disintguish its work from Infrastructure teams at Google.
TC/ yoe/location?
I have a potential SRE manager interview coming up What type of interview questions should I prepare for ?
Do you even code?
At least 50% of time is dev work for all SREs at Google. In my case 70+. Google hires SWE-SREs for that reason within SRE.
