Can someone from #Google give me a rundown of the various Security Engineering positions at Google? What's the security org look like? Any teams to go for or avoid? What about GCP? Looking at open positions, I see titles like Information Security Engineer, Security Engineer (Threat Analysis), Security Engineer (Detection), and Security Engineer (Infrastructure Protection). Also, hows the leadership in security? #google #cybersecurity #interview #security
TC?
There are a number of different security organizations within Google, and culture/workload/type of work will vary heavily between them and even within the teams themselves depending on focus area. ISE is a central appsec-ish organization of sorts which handles general security consultation, hardening, secure by design, etc for Google and some bets. Some focus areas here include crypto, cloud, tooling, etc. Type of work done will vary between them heavily, but lateral movement and flexibility in what you work on is common so you're never really stuck somewhere. EIP is more on the enterprise infrastructure side of things and handle a lot more of the secure infra design and internal integrations side of things. Not as familiar with their specific workflows. There are also security teams for specific high-value targets like Kubernetes, Android, Chrome, etc which have their own workflows and processes. Threat Analysis/Detection probably refer to the TAG team, which I know nothing about. When you say GCP security it could mean a few different things. If it means the Cloud subgroup of ISE then leadership there is reasonable and supports the team well from what I can see. If it is eng work on one of the security products I don't have any comment on leadership there.
Thanks this is helpful. There’s seemingly not much public info or blind posts about google security.
> crypto this would be the original definition—short for cryptography. not crypto short for cryptobro
Unfortunately, nobody is buying Google Security.
They (GCP) about to get some terrible PM vp leadership.
Lol you have a coworker leave recently?
Trust me... You guys will realize when he show up.
