Hi fellow blinders, Have an interview with google next week for a UX Designer - New Grad role. (2nd round) It's suppose to be a 1-on-1 with a designer at google. What should i emphasize and say in my portfolio presentation to increase my chances of success. Appreciate the help😁 Thanks Current TC:80K #tech #google #design #ui/ux
So you have a portfolio presentation in your 1:1 with designer? Usually it’s just a conversation and some behavioral questions
No there should be a portfolio presentation as well
That 1:1 is a portfolio review. I had one 2 weeks ago. Just be very clear about your contribution. Mention why you were trying to solve the problem and how your solutions impacted your users. Use metrics as much as possible.
Did you intern at AMEX?
Nope. Regular role
How long you been at amex? since its new grad role
Focus on the process and challenges. Feel free to dm if you have questions
Have you interviewed there before?
Yep
Don’t join
Why
I don’t know what Google’s reason is but my recommendation is start at a less chill company early in the career so that you can grind and gain Valuable experience when you have the time and energy and as you grow older and progress in your career, settle down at a more relatively chill company like Google. (Assuming that’s the trajectory you want to take).
Hey op, do you mind if I dm you for some advice? I also applied to New Grad role and I graduated last year, but got a cold e-mail rejection.. So upset and I just want to learn what others are doing to pass the interview process.
Sure
You can ask your recruiter what to expect at every round of the interview.
Thank you for all this information 👋🏽🔥

Is UX research lower pay field than SWE ?
Yes but this thread is about Design specifically
No, its not. I know UXRs who earn the same as SWEs and some even earn more. In BigTech companies, UXR is often considered a niche role, with many requiring a PhD. Don't spread false information.
