Everyone is overreacting to small layoffs done yesterday but everyone else in Big Tech is still hiring including Microsoft, Meta and Apple, all of which had a decent increase in job postings since Q3 https://x.com/aznweng/status/1745455331835253027?s=46
Meta(instagram) laid off few thousand yesterday
Uh don’t you mean 60 people? Where is the report for “a few thousand”?
Rolling layoffs, started with a few hundred the other day from Instagram . More to follow in other orgs.
both amazon and google are also hiring
All of these graphs have almost the exact same shape. This really just proves they're all practically in the same position
It’s also probably the same shape as the stock market lol
That’s exactly the problem - they need to stop hiring and first use the people they already have. Hiring and firing together is the most stupid thing I have seen
I agree with the sentiment, but firing people who are costing a lot of money to the company because they got a shit ton of rsus 4 years ago, and replacing them with people who will be happy with a portion of the rsus (because tc will still be high) makes a lot of business sense. Yes, there will be a ramp up period and loss of some tribal knowledge, but at such big companies, people quit all the time. So, in theory, you should have mechanisms in place to deal with it.
Spoken like someone who doesn’t see the people in who were affected. And those on teams affected have to do the work that was left. What’s the saying “1 murder is a tragedy 10 is a statistic?”
Microsoft and Meta won't hesitate to layoff soon
They all follow each other.
Apple is an exception till now
It was a bear mkt really. Look closely they are starting to head down.
Used to be Google would eliminate roles and give people like 60 days to find new roles internally. Sad they seem to have lost the elements of culture that made it special

Earnings don't mean much. Companies will still layoff, even with open reqs @doordash
