I have two verbal offers from Meta and Google. Meta has given me a very competitive offer and I want to hear Google’s competitive offer before making a final decision about where to join. Google asked me to get proof of numbers from Meta but Meta will not give me numbers when I asked. Everything has been verbal only at this point. To be honest this entire process feels very petty to me. I feel im caught between two tech giants in a pissing contest. What should I do here? Is Google being petty for asking for proof? Or is Meta being petty for not providing an offer? Blind Tax: Amazon L5 Current TC: $250K YOE: 8 Current Offer From Meta: Level: L5 Area: Seattle Base: $209K Equity: $800K Sign-on: $80K
In my case, Google trusted the verbal offer from Meta so I was successful in negotiating. I provided an email from meta saying "it cannot be discussed over email" -- maybe you can try the same?
Usually written offer is extended
Written offer comes after I verbally accept. So don’t have it yet since negotiations are still underway.
If you are serious about G, tell Meta you are ready to sign and then ask G to respond before offer expiration.
Meta recruiter mentioned this is bad practice. It’s like a reneg offer. Black mark goes on file when you verbally accept and then decline written.
No way OP that is bullshit. Recruiter is lying/pressuring. Nothing is final until offer is signed.. this goes both ways
Is Google asking for proof really that unreasonable? In my view Meta not providing is way worse
This is my ultimate question. I’m not sure which is being a pain here. Who’s right and who’s wrong? So much politics!
Easy. Accept the Facebook offer then get the offer letter then give that to Google and decide whether to quit Facebook for the Google counter
Feels a tad slimy. Not going to verbal accept, and then reneg. I think I’m going to go with the e-mail approach.
Fight fire with fire 🤷♂️
In my case I had email proof from Meta because I had earlier asked recruiter “do I have all these numbers right?”, after verbal
Clever
You don't have to show any proof
Google, like blind, is annoyed that you haven’t shared numbers. Offer details please 😄
Updated
Tell meta to send the contract over you’re ready to sign Then once you have it say there are some fine print you need to have your attorney look over Use it with google
This is the way.
Yes. There's a lot more in the contract than numbers. You need to read it over for sure and it's not unreasonable to have it without pre-committing.

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
Both are being petty. Just tell Google to fuck off saying this are the numbers compete if you can. Otherwise take meta has way more upside. Also if you reject Google offer do mention that your experience was pathetic with Google since they couldn't take your word
Google asked me for proof as well and hated that part as well.
@hol3s, did you get proof from Meta? I hate it too but find myself in a bit of a stalemate.
