So I was looking and this public report from 2019 showing some distributions. I was particularly wondering how close this is at least for tech roles in SLU, Kirkland and Fremont offices. And btw. Is there na incentive for hiring managers to get more diverse hires? #google #diversity #seattle Edit: perhaps I should also clarify.. I heard a rumour that some sort of incentive exist in another company in the area to have more diverse team to balance statistics. Just wondering about that. This being completely unrelated to hiring based on skill(which I believe should be the case and best way to make unbiased hires). No disrespect intended to any group of people. I'm just wondering about the numbers and incentives.
Yeah google is so racist. How dare it to hire a candidate based on their ability but not the color of their skin.
I actually enjoyed the comment 😁 Just wanted to clarify, no disrespect intended. I'm just curious about demographics in the area. I think hiring should be based on both technical and soft skills.
What made you think ppl from those two specific races lack soft skills?
Should be compared with the demographics of the available talent pool, computer science majors in college, and leetcode users with 100+ problems solved.
Most of my CS classes are white and asian males.
Since they hire people world wide, we should use the world wide race distribution.
Latino and black are much larger than 5% worldwide
Google has many Indian engineers and that chart has no Indian section. Either the data are wrong or they're confusing a continent with a race.
Asian € Indian
Lol @22% women. Glad I left Seattle
Lol what? It’s a usual percent in this industry.
Fremont and SLU is all white and asian. Barely any Indians or minorities
I believe the way it works is that they fill the hiring pipeline much more with underrepresented groups. That way, even though the hiring bar is the same, you end up hiring more minorities. In theory, at least. In practice you end up interviewing a lot of unqualified women, for example, which is now making me low key biased.
It looks horrible! Too many white and Asian people!
