Google doesnt reveal name of the phone interviewer?

I just went through a phone interview round with google. The recruiter said they cannot reveal the name of the “team member” since it is company policy. Is this normal? When I asked the name of the interviewer today he said something like John which seems BS. Is this normal?

Some recruiters pull this trick.AFAIK, they used to give interviewer's first/full name.

What's the benefit of this "trick"?

You want to ask him/her out or something?

I’ve done a phone interview with someone who told me his name (and I believed him). It might be that they didn’t want to share their name or they might actually be John!

I do not need it. But the whole thing seemed a bit weird maybe because I havent seen it before.

Why wouldnt I need the name? The position I was interviewing for was not a regular dev role. It was more in an audio division. Infact the phone interviewer didnt even know about the position. He said he was just asked to check coding skills. Is this normal too?

You don't need the name because the recruiter will handle next steps.

They give the first name...

Yea I have seen that alot in first phone interviews. I think it's because they are just broad coding assessments and you don't need to research the interviewer to prepare for it.

Yes it's normal, send your thank you note to the recruiter and they will forward it.

It was same case for me too. I’m fine with that. Because when I took initial phone screen the candidate was insisting on getting my last name which is none of his business

For senior position at director level they will reveal first name..
