I signed out of the google maps app in iphone cause I don’t need them tracking my location I signed in on the Youtube app to watch my saved playlist. I open the google maps app in my iphone again, and lo and behold it signed me in automatically using credentials from youtube app without even asking me if I want to sign into google Maps!! This is unethical google. Edit: For people stating its SSO - This is not about SSO at all. It’s about whether is it ethical or not! Just because I need to use one of your products does NOT mean I need to be signed into ALL of your products!!! I see from the poll more than 40% of the folks think its unethical besides the triggered rest (for some reason?) So even if this post raised a little bit of awareness on this issue, my job is done. /end of rant
Google will still know your location. They’ll never leave you alone
That’s how authentication works for a lot of companies/apps. You don’t have a “YouTube” account and a “maps” account, you have a single account you are either signed into or not. For browser based apps, this info is often stored as a JWT or some type of session token. For mobile apps, your account info is stored by the OS. The majority of people want things to “just work” and this approach gives you that more often than not. Imagine if your company uses Google products and you had to reauthenticate every time you switched services 😬
Scooter nailed it
Welcome to Apple Maps!
Maps and YouTube are owned by the same company. Try "signing out" of MS Outlook but staying "signed in" to Teams. Ooh better yet, submit a ticket when it doesn't work.
you can simply choose not to use their apps. nothing reallt is free unless you are homeless bagging on street. even that may not really be free.
Tell me you know nothing about authentication/SSO without telling me you know nothing about authentication/SSO
that is one "wordy" snappy comeback!
Tech comebacks 🤷🏻♂️
You know you can just turn off location sharing right?
That's single sign on right. Both apps use your Google account. Maybe you are not in the tech industry? SSO is a very common authentication mechanism. Lot of other sites you use probably offer "sign in with Google" option too

When you learn that you’re signing in and out of the same account and google has sso across their products then you’ll realize there is nothing to see here.
OP prob not in tech
SSO doesn’t necessarily mean you need to be signed into every supported application if you sign in to 1. It means *you can* sign in with same credentials if you want.
