From another article, it seems like they were running Nest, fitbit and Pixel as separate companies, each with its own hardware division. Now they are restructuring to a functional model, similar to Apple. So i guess there were bound to be redundancies

Voice assistant is worthless now that llms are mainstream
My question would be who will make devices that can run LLMs? you can’t expect to excel if you don’t optimize LLMs to run on chip in the long run for markets with limited internet.
Pixel team, and just focus on the primary core products and improve those. Now is not the time for companies to take risks and expensive innovation, it's time to be lean, improve your current product suite and strategize for the future.
