I started using Gboard, the keyboard app from Google and that's the default keyboard on my secondary phone (an Android). I sometimes use that phone to text my longtime gf and I've also used that to tell her "I love you" a few times now. And I have already started seeing ads for engagement rings on the YouTube app. Not trying to single out and bash Google, but Apple, though may not be perfect, has waaaay better privacy boundaries. I can confirm after having worked here. End user data is secure and not monetized, let alone brazenly in this manner. #tech #privacy #ads #monetization
Need quarter over quarter growth
Do you mind if we read your personal data ? 1.yes 2. No. Thank you. We value your feedback.
Sorry what? Apple is trying hard to get into ads and is doing that in a much more underhanded way.
Yeah Apple News, App Store already started showing ads.
Your data is still end to end encrypted and private, and you can opt out of tracking for any app
Dude, I started helping out a buddy of mine with his OLD and sure enough I've started seeing ads for tinder lolol
I don't work for Google but I find it hard to believe that they would use GBoard usage data for ads. The data collected should be anonymous and aggregated, otherwise good luck dealing with all the privacy and legal implications of logging credit cards and passwords in plaintext. Most likely, you are seeing relevant ads because they are able to learn from tracking pixels, search queries or other signals, and their ads recommendations system is top notch. I get where the concern is coming from though, people like to believe that facebook is listening to you in the background when they see relevant ads, which is factually false. Given the scrutiny we get, an internal leaker/whistleblower (or anyone with reverse engineering skills) would have confirmed that already and made a name for themselves if true.
Nope. I never did, in the last 2.x decades that I have been alive. Not even anything remotely related to "engagement" or "ring" on any other website or app. Heck, I hadn't even seen/interacted with anything that's remotely related to this on any app/website, until of course I had to post about it on Blind here.
I mean a lot of signals are subtle and indirect, you might have searched or browsed something indirectly related and you didn't realize. Also, just a hypothetical, maybe your account is signed in on your desktop at home and someone else used it to search for rings 😉
this is just coincidence. you are tracked in so many ways. gboard is not likely one of them. more likely you visited a ring site at some point or sites that people shopping for rings visit. even a flower site. and they know you’re a single male

as i said, it doesn’t have to be ring explicitly. you are tracked by category. shop for flowers and candy, get an ad for ring. you ARE being tracked. just not in the way you think you are
Try SwiftKey.
People are so fast to jump to conclusions… Do you know how many people write I love you on GBoard? It could be to a parent, to a child, etc. How would google know it’s someone you would marry? I’m surprised that you think Google’s data is not secure end to end since you have knowledge of how it works at Apple. How often has there been a leak of user data at google? Very very rarely. And about Apple… they are such a hypocrite, blocking every other company ads business to surf on the privacy wave, then launch their own ads business.
I'm not saying that was the ONLY signal. Google obviously knows much more about me wrt date of birth and what not that I chose to give them voluntarily. It's not rocket science for even a dumb person to connect the dots and I'm sure the algorithms are way smarter than that.
That’s not how it works. The advertiser chooses the criteria for targeting. They can target on gender, age, location, etc. Maybe relationship status (not sure). But would google use gboard data to conclude whether you are in a stable relationship and ready soon for mariage? Lol. That’s laughable, not trivial at all technically and not even considering all the privacy aspects. You can create an advertiser account and see what criteria you can target when creating an ads campaign.
Yeah. But that was enough for your mom to keep cumming back to back
