Had an on-site with Google cloud. One of the interviewers had such a thick accent that I had a very hard time following the question and it's constraints. Needless to say, the round did not go well - I ran out of time with all the "sorry"s and "what"s. Is there any recourse for me, or am I just to blame my luck? I really want to complain to the recruiter but will it help, or can it just back-fire blacklisting me as a racist?! Edit: it wasn't the accent as much as the spitting and hissing that made it really hard to follow.
Did you do the needful and revert back
It’s not worth the risk... I mean you won’t get blacklisted unless you really offend someone, but I really just can’t see how it will help. Google is extremely SJW, even more than Zuckerberg land. I had same problem in recent interview: “ello, aye yam frrröm see yattell” ... yeah sure buddy. Lol
Exactly what I am afraid of. But still sucks to come so far to get beaten up by an guy who spits and talks at the same time.
No, this interviewer wasn't Indian
lol. Indians usually have the least worst accent. Have you ever heard French or German or Russian accent? It makes me lol when they talk. It’s so thick it’s hard to believe they’re actually speaking English.
Feedback is a gift, give it, you're probably not getting the job anyways and it's probably not worth it if you have to work with people that can can't communicate. I give this feedback all the time. Folks need to be able to communicate in the lowest common denominator language, and at Google it's English.
I would like to interview again and other rounds were not as bad.
Sure, just saying you should give the feedback, keep it objective, like, the interviewer was not an effective communicator and did all poor job at describing "x". Stay objective though.
Ask for additional interview
Thanks, So I won't risk being blacklisted if I do right?
No
Southern accent?
What kind of an accent was it?
It was Asian (likely Chinese), words "think about" became "sink above"
To be fair almost all the interviewers were Asian and I had no issues understanding them. It was just this dude.
Grumpy Ukrainian on my side. I feel you.
I've worked with Indian, Chinese and middle eastern colleagues my whole career. By far the hardest person to understand was British. Dude talked a mile a minute with a really thick accent.
The British don’t have an accent...
This is how english is supposed to be.
