https://watcher.guru/news/google-acquires-300-million-stake-in-ai-start-up-anthropic Classic defensive move in response to MS+OpenAI partnership MS clearly had its strategy better planned.
Can't tell if you are a troll or actually think this is a good take.
I do think it is a good strategy. $300MM to do 3 things: 1. Defend against MS + OpenAI threat. 2. Grow cloud revenues (Anthropic will use GCP) 3. Steal a high growth AWS customer: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/trn1/. “Anthropic builds reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that will have many opportunities to create value commercially and for public benefit. “Our research interests span multiple areas including natural language, human feedback, scaling laws, reinforcement learning, code generation, and interpretability. A major key to our success is access to modern infrastructure that allows us to spin up very large fleets of high-performance deep learning accelerators,” said Tom Brown, Co-founder at Anthropic. “We are looking forward to using Trn1 instances powered by AWS Trainium, as their unprecedented ability to scale to tens of thousands of nodes and higher network bandwidth will enable us to iterate faster while keeping our costs under control.”
This is unbearably cringe and makes us look even worse. It smells like pathetic desperation, especially given that as recently as a couple of weeks ago execs were saying how far ahead we were compared to others. We’ve jumped the shark so hard.
