1. Google started a L4 lowball offer with 255K in HCOL! Ridiculous, and when I gave them competing offers they refused to match. They don't even consider current pay which is nuts! 2. Interview process sucks! Amazon has 5-day promise after on site, you get an offer letter within 5 days of on-site, too good. 3. Front loading is scam over 4 year comp, the lowball comp drops more after year-2! Refreshers are not going to do much despite being more because y3 & y4 are already low. Amazon has 200K+ base these days! 4. How much perks are really worth? 12K for food? The pay difference with Amazon is bigger than it. 5. Slow promo & growth - Not sure about Amazon but AWS pace is no where comparable to Google! Amazon L6 is also much better than G L5 promo. 6. Might only apply to people working on native AWS stack but building services using AWS is transferable knowledge AF over internal tools! I can see it during interviews. People complain about Amazon including 15% growth, I still feel it is better because I found out other companies call it "bonus" 15% and it is not guranteed! During comp, they count that entire 15% and gives a number. Real comp is even less. I don't like Amazon sometimes for too fast pace and wanted to get out but suddenly I feel Amazon is a good company despite the sentiment than 99% companies out there, specially for higher level ICs (L6, L7). Maybe I just have good experience with AWS. Google used to be a good company but so disappointed in myself that I studied so much for G only to get a lower salary from them! TC - 300K (L5, despite being internal promo)
Nice try Amazon recruiting
You can see my other posts and I literally have offers from other companies. Infact Square came with good number of 325K that Google refused to match. I am looking for Snap referrals in other post to get more pay so you can call me Amazon HR but I am L5 open for opportunities!
Lowball - are you L5 SDE?
Most companies don’t consider current pay.
Well thats just not true
Companies are not allowed to ask for current pay in states like Ca. So there’s no way they consider it.
you studied so much for yourself, not for Google!
I’d study something else if given a choice, and not some coding puzzles
@jjjjjbhj 💯 I don't grind DP to get DPed by companies
Google knows people want to leave amazon so they won’t bother matching Amazon tc
That might be true but not everyone is unhappy and sometimes people just move for more comp. My experience might not be great but not even bad. A normal corporate job really.
Looks like you were not one of them and you chose this for yourself
Sorry they didn’t match your expectations. It makes sense to stay somewhere you’re happy. I agree that Amazon pays remarkably well nowadays. I ended up seriously considering their offer when I was deciding last year.
Did you end up staying at G?
I picked G over A. I was not at G before that.
Did you do super well on your google interview? From what I've read google is less keen to match offers if the interview wasn't superb.
Yes. I got a yes in a day, all were Hire or Strong Hire. They are just taking advantage of slow market and prestige.
Recruiters don’t give out hire, strong hire etc such ratings. How do you know then?
Came over from Amazon and I like it just fine but I agree the pace of work is much slower. I've learned the biggest source of disappointment is usually expectations; hope you find a place that matches what you want the best 🤝
Thanks. If nothing works, I might end up staying here. Even an HV2 rating next OLR is going to take me to 325K. I can get promo in 2-3 years max to L6 and even become SDM or get bigger scope.
Tell them that the "Google's brand name" won't feed your family. So, start giving reasonable pay and offers.
How fucking entitled do you have to be saying "won't feed your family" when you're talking about an offer that is substantially more money than the vast majority will ever earn. Say it's low all you want, but don't bring horseshit like that a family is going to starve on $255k.
Take an average household : Single earner with a wife and 2 kids living in CA area with 255k. Let us break it down 140k base + 35k sign on + 80k RSU/year After tax: 140%65% = 94k Rent : 4k per.month = 48k per year Day care, education for 2 kids: 4k per month: 48k Eat : Google's brand value or Starve
I bet you re an amazon recruiter
Keep saying that, check my other posts and I have Square offer that beat Google & Amazon too bdw! I am open to referrals with more pay. Google lowballs are ridiculous and tell me if I was wrong on any point, interview experience of team match was very bad & took a month!
Yes what you have mentioned is all true and been through it . Google is keen on paying low and down leveling .
Did you include bonus + refreshers?
Amazon has no bonus or refreshers. Base + stocks starting y3
For Google offer I mean
