Huge deprecation banner was added on the documentation page: https://cloud.google.com/iot/docs/resources Google seems to be unable to compete against Amazon and Microsoft in the cloud business. I remember reading on Blind that the funding for Google Cloud will go bye-bye if they don't beat Azure by 2023. Here's an article from 2018 covering this: https://www.theinformation.com/articles/google-brass-set-2023-as-deadline-to-beat-amazon-microsoft-in-cloud Is GCP really struggling that much?
🍿
I remember AWS made their first cent in profit after 12 years. It’s a long long term play. There is no going back for Google now ; either expand or maintain status quo
Gcp is older than 12 years. Also that was the first cent reported to wstreet. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t profitable sooner. Amazon historically reinvests it’s profits to the business.
What do u think GCP is doing ,, not reinvesting profits
I'm about to base a full backend off Firebase for a new app with the scope for millions of users. Bad idea?
Bad idea. Asides deprecation, cost can grow exponentially. If you know a bit of Graphql Or even just RDB Hasura Graphql is my go to, it's free up until several millions of requests
Thanks for the suggestion man, will def take a look. The core functionality is trading and messaging, so requests will be off the charts over time. Would you go with them for cloud functions for backend processing tasks also? Does cost scale cheaper compared to the behemoths?
A false economy! Never seen that before
Unless they REALLY innovate in the cloud space and soon, I don’t see how they’re catching up. Talking about cloud options pretty much means Azure and AWS; GC is rarely in the conversation.
I found GCP more intuitive than AWS a couple years ago because it was much easier to set up an Ubuntu vm that behaved like my own desktop. Pricing was also better per spec. Haven't used Azure. RIP
I found it nice at the time, too. Great tooling for automation and pricing was better for what I needed. Alas, at under $1/month worth of AWS SaaS, it wasn’t worth my time to port it to another cloud and didn’t need more than a free-tier VM at GCP. Now I get Azure credits and use free-tier SaaS on Azure for the above tasks.
Oracle released a Trojan horse on GCP 😂
Link?
Link is called TK. He will boomerang to Oracle when he is kicked out.
TC or GTFO
Google can't beat atleast Amazon in cloud
