BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Heard back recently from Google and that I passed HC. Result was a L3 engineer when I was hoping for L4 (make sure you specify levels before you interview unlike what I did!) Came from a nontech background (bio bachelors) but have worked for 4 years up the chain to be a technical lead at my current startup. They are trying to team match me with other teams now because they froze hiring on the original job I was looking for so I don't have a TC. Should I just take the Google offer for l3 or should I try to apply for other jobs?? I haven't really looked at other jobs mostly because I thought that Google would have been a dream company to work for but am worried that I will be lowballed an offer by Google. Furthermore, is 4 yoe l3 common? I've seen a lot of posts say that 5 yoe should be l4
Probably could have been L4 however comp wise should not matter much of you have competing offers
Get other offers and you’ll be able to answer for yourself
Good point. I'm looking at applying for other companies now, hopefully will have enough time to apply and hear back prior to an offer from Google. Thanks for your input.
I got levelled as L3 too and so did a couple of my friends with similar YOE as yours. I think it depends on your interview performance as well as where you currently work. Either ways, since hiring is frozen, I would look at other companies too. Speaking of frozen hiring, which locations are you looking at?
Are you at Google now or did you decide to go with another company? The original role was a gcp role in Austin.
In Team Matching right now and I am in the same situation as you due to Frozen hiring. Since there is no guarantee of finding a team, I am looking at other companies
If you’re not from a top tech firm like fb or netflix, downleveling is very common. Even amazon, apple, and msft people can get downleveled too.
Good to know. Thanks for the input!
Offer details yet?
No, the original role position I was applying for has frozen hiring and they are trying to shop my app around to other roles/teams.
