Compared to other companies, it looks like Google layoff was done across all levels and tenures. At Meta, I know there's a director who's laid off, but it's mostly bootcampers, IC5 or below. I'm not saying this is a better way to do layoff or anything, but it definitely seems the distribution of tenure, levels for laid off people for Google seems wider than other companies, which surprised me a bit. 1 Sr Director could be paid the amount of 2-3 managers/sr managers. Laying them off means you can promote from within and pay them less than the laid off director.
Went on LinkedIn and saw a Googler who was there for 16.5 years got laid off
They also got a year of pay + bonus + healthcare, thankfully.
I saw a post about a guy at Microsoft who was there 30 years
They dumped expensive employees
It was random
It was not random. At all.
One was a Googler for 20 years, insane
Since when layoffs are about tenure? I don’t understand…
Boomer mentality. Everyone is expendable, always.
They cut our robotics project at X that laid off every level up until our project CEO. 🥲
man. I'm really sorry to hear that... saw in the news that robotics project at X had 200+ people affected.
Its okay 🥹 we’ll be fine (hopefully) yeah we we’re a lot. Not sure why what caused them to pull the plug since I thought they would consolidate AI & Robotics. Lots of unanswered questions. I wish everyone else the best and you as well!
Saw on LinkedIn that multiple VPs were impacted. It's definitely across all levels
holy shit. I also just saw some Google VP layoff posts on LinkedIn.
That is good. Nobody should take their job for granted. This needs to happen in mcrosft too,so many partner level folks just coasting with no real contribution
Some VPs acted like Google was their fathers company
Very true, one VP who has started up was taking my interview for his own startup. He was literally behaving like a God to me. I cracked the interview and declined the offer 🤣
Microsoft laid off one CVP but that seems to be a single outlier
Who
CVP?
So anyone that has been at any of the recent FAANG or similar companies for the past 8-10 years should be multi-millionaires by now. I think they will be just fine from any layoff. It's those that joined at peaks 2020-2021 that got decimated on any RSU values but still they will be fine too with 6 months severence and should easily be top candidates for the next job with FAANG on resume. The only question is if they will be willing to take a 30%-50% pay cut in TC.
Agreed. I am one but without the 6 months severance. Mine is simply 2.5 months. But yes, taking a 30-50% cut is really difficult to swallow. It must be done though.
I’m back to 🥜 I guess 🤷🏼♂️
I saw some distinguished designer and engineer did too
isn't distinguished same as sr. director (L9) at google? or is it higher?
Not sure but it’s IC L8/L9 so was more surprising to me personally
