I think this isn't a duplicate thread. but- I'm leaving the country club for Google. They seem or give off the appearance that they don't do much negotiation and it's essentially plug in your information and receive package. Clearly that can't be the case. What are some things to that are flexible in the offer? I don't expect it to be unfair but engineers love to maximize.
Have a competing offer.
I declined their offer, as they classified me as L5, while I'm L6 (in the past +2 years) in Amazon. Also, I was not impressed by the offer and it wasn't competitive. Maybe it me, maybe them... I'm okay :-)
Google tends to bring people in at a lower level than they were at their previous company. If their previous company is particularly well paying this can lead to a reduction in comp.
I think L6 at Amazon is senior? L5 @ Google is senior too. It's fair IMO.
Did you stay in Seattle or go down to HQ?
all you need to know... http://www.businessinsider.com/silicon-valley-engineer-negotiated-a-starting-salary-from-120k-to-250k-in-just-a-few-weeks-2016-4
i had to give competing offer from fb to increase their offer. i was moving from seattle to mtv and they were trying to lower the base -.-
One country club to another?
do they require a copy of the competing offer?

Base won't move much, equity can move though if there's data to justify it.
