Received a downlevel G offer which is a good bit lower than a competing offer (DoorDash). If things go south at DoorDash (doesn’t seem very recession-proof tbh), can I really come back to the google offer within a year? How does that work in practice? I reject now and email my recruiter in 6 months asking if I can go through team matching again? Side note: I’ve got little kids at home and value stability and WLB #google #doordash
It depends on your level and head-counts they have at the moment. Yes your offer is still valid but it’s not guaranteed they can move forward with in a timeline you prefer
You received an offer during this freeze/pause? Org/location/level/TC?
Yes I got lucky and my role was granted an exception. LCOL remote / L3 / 220k. Also I am 4yoe so the L3 downlevel is a slap in the face lol
Well you are getting paid better than MSFT so congratulations! What's the breakdown if you don't mind
If it’s only a bit lower than DD, take G becoz: 1) G is giving lower offers because of the stock being under-valued; it’s expected to come back (not sure for DD), so a year or 2 from now, your TC would be much higher, provides you don’t sell. 2) WLB and culture. 3) take the stamp of G, and encash it in your next switch.
Not by default
Thanks for the info. In your opinion, would I be screwed starting at L3 with 4yoe? I want to justify G for stability, but I also don’t want to kill my career just for the brand name.
To get better advice, it would help to open up earlier, current level at Msft, share levels and respective TCs offered. L3 with 4yoe is losing 2-4 yrs of progress, but need more inputs to see if this makes sense
If you value WLB don’t come to DD…
Down leveling to L3 should not be acceptable at 4 YOE. I had to make a choice between L4 Google and E5 DD and picked DD. That being said if you care about WLB maybe Google is the place for you. You cannot coast at DD. The projects have much more scope and you can grow much faster. As for stability I don’t think anyone can predict that.
It is acceptable if you didn't do well on the interview, they don't care that much. I got downleveled once from them and then I did better the next time
Maybe best to ask your recruiter about this
