Email went out this morning at Google offering a “virtual Gender Specific Training” class for $49 that is “specifically for our women+ GFitters”. Seems tailored around “monthly cycle, changing energy levels, mood swings, and physical symptoms”. Is this appropriate kind of class to be offering at a workplace? I wouldn’t care if I didn’t think that a male-only class wouldn’t start in-office riots.
Too many women are taking off work or blaming perf on their period. That’s what this is. Freaking Google. 😅
Reminds me of this https://youtu.be/PuiWm2Lb-hk?si=6xs3eDITC_815G9G My cramps aren’t bad but I have a friend who has really bad ones. If you understood periods you could kind of figure out who’s lying too.
What kind of gender-specific training would men need? For example, do they have cyclical hormonal changes that affect their energy or strength levels? Fair doesn't always mean equal, but I'm sure people would be fine if men needed a special fitness class because they leaked fluid from their prostates and had butt cramps and achy pecs once a month. Like, are you being harmed by being excluded for this one thing? It's a class where they probably talk about things like menopause. It's not a boardroom where they're discussing promo or raises. Did you kick up a fuss when they separated the genders for sex ed, or did you use common sense and realize that girls maybe don't need to know the same level of detail about we dreams and testicles that boys do?
This is the exact kind of sentiment I’m talking about. Cultures like that at Google thinking that gender-specific problems only exist for women. That’s exactly what this comment is perpetuating.
Design a male centric orientation.
Sounds like a load of bullshit to me, so why would you be upset that you can’t get a bag of it too?
Is this about a product? Like you need to learn about menstruation in order to support a product?
Wouldn't a woman know about all those things by the age of 15 or so? I can't imagine what kind of training would be necessary in this regard.
Trainings are often a reaction to something. So I’m curious what the background is. To be honest a training is a lot better than your coworker with the ability to move things with her mind getting pushed too far.
Do they serve tacos?
Generally gender specific classes would probably be problematic. However if it's literally about experiences specific to one gender, it makes sense and is reasonable. Yes, a male-only class would be fine too if Google decided to do that. If you're really upset about this for some reason, I'd say don't worry because I bet nobody will go and it will soon be sunsetted. I'm not a woman, but my impression is 99+% of women understand how to handle their physiology just fine and aren't interested in taking a corporate seminar on it.
You Leftists are deplorable
Oh god forbid you learn about a period.
