How does it work for 30 minute time to keyboard rotation? Can SWEs on this type of rotation use earned hours for time off (like SREs can) or they can only cash it? If cashing in, is performance bonus calculated based on base salary or base+oncall comp?

Typical on all bonus at google for swe is ridiculously small, often few hundred dollar per weekly rotation.
My understanding is that oncall comp is the same in this team for SWEs as it would be if SREs were handling it. But I'll confirm with the recruiter
It depends from team to team -- but if your rotation is not compensated you should ask your manager to sign up for "OCC" (oncall compensation). With 30 response time rotations you reach the quarterly cap for compensation if you are oncall for 2 weeks in a quarter, incl nights and weekends. That amounts to a ~15% increase on your base pay. If you are on the SWE ladder you cannot take time off in lieu of oncall hours -- since more than a year ago that has been reserved for SREs.
So max oncall comp is 15% on base pay even if I'm oncall once a month? Is the extra on base used when calculating performance bonus?
Tier 1 oncall is .66 of your hourly pay and tier 2 is .33. And there is an 80hr per q cap. You said 30 mins ack so that's tier 2.
SWEs can be a part of such rotation, but rarely. Generally SREs unless you don't have any. You can take time off for it. Bonus is on base only.
The team I'm matched with doesn't have any SREs. Apparently, the service is not critical enough and there are frequent changes which makes using SREs too expensive. How much is comp for 30 minute SLA?
So if it's not critical, would mostly be 0. But frankly depends on the team. There are tiers , but they are not universally enforced. Depends on the team.
